Last week’s Geek Girl’s Allowed meet up was a small but perfectly formed lunchtime gathering of women who all have varying levels of interest/curiousity about digital technology. While we nibbled on the delicious nibbles that we all brought along we chatted about a variety of things.
The highlights for me were:
- Sarah Profit (aka @SarahProfit1) talked about the all female stand-up show that she’s involved in promoting and hosting at this years Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Sarah was keen to get everyone’s ideas about how she could use technology (particularly social media) to make the show stand out among all the other hundreds of shows going on over the course of the festival. We bounced around a ton of silly and not-so-silly ideas and Sarah furiously took down notes of any that sounded like they might be useful.
- Cassie Limb (from Creative Printing Direct) showed us the technology she’s going to use to make a digital design from the “Ones and Zeros” which we artfully doodled at a previous meetup. The design will be printed onto vinyl so that we can make our very own Geek Girls Allowed keyrings and incorporate the design into our logo if we want to. Cassie also told us about the singing chickens that she used to own - sadly there isn’t any video evidence of Cassie’s chickens singing Hawaii 5-0 but it sounds very amusing.
The last couple of meetups have been a bit thin on the ground so we formulated a plan for getting more women along in the future – if you’d like to be involved in a planning meeting or be on the mailing list for future meetups then just email Mel Kanarek. You can also join the Geek Girls Allowed group on GistHub to keep up-to-date with what’s happening and join in on the conversations.
