Digital 20/20 is a partnership initiative involving representatives of both the public and private sectors, with an Action Plan focused on helping everyone in the Region to acquire skills that will allow them to get more out of life and work in the digital age. It also addresses the specific IT and specialist skills needed for the region’s emerging digital industries.
Digital 20/20 has evolved from Digital 2010,
the original Digital and ICT Skills Action Plan for the region, which was developed to provide a dynamic framework for the successful and vigorous development of digital and ICT skills across the region.
Digital 2010 became an established platform for the advancement of digital and ICT skills in Yorkshire and the Humber. It helped to foster debate and raise awareness about the increasing importance of digital skills for the current and future workforce, as well as for citizens in their everyday lives – embracing both user and professional skills.
A streamlined Action Plan
In order to capitalise on the strength and depth of partnership working that was established through Digital 2010, the Action Plan that formed the core of Digital 2010 has been streamlined into 12 themes for action for Digital 20/20. Consultations with members of the Operational Steering Group have identified funding programmes and strategic developments at both regional and national level that substantively support these themes as our ‘lead activities’.

Guided by the Operational Steering Group reporting to the Regional Skills Partnership, the Digital 20/20 management team is now focusing on promoting and supporting these lead activities. The goal is to harness both existing and additional investment, where opportunities become apparent, to maximise progress.
Digital 20/20 does this by providing a vehicle for collaboration, a framework for planning education and training provision, and a catalyst for investment to maximise opportunity.

Why ‘Digital’ and not ‘ICT’?
Digital 20/20 is about living, learning, working and doing business in today’s digital world. We use the term ‘digital’ to cover the broad range of technologies associated with traditional computing, telecommunications, the Internet and multi-media, and their uses in business, education, the public sector and our daily lives.
‘Digital skills’ refers to the development of both user and professional level skills, embracing not only desktop computing but also the spectrum of digital literacy through to specialist disciplines such as computer science and interactive media.
The Action Plan recognises that this ‘digital' umbrella covers an extremely broad array of technologies and skills as well as diverse business activity. It therefore sets out to provide a solid platform of digital skills upon which specialist developments applicable to specific sectors such as the audio visual industries, bioscience or healthcare can build.
