Using ICT and digital media for NEET work

People Outside the Workforce: Digital Literacy
What's happening, what's working?
Digital 20/20 recently collaborated with partners, particularly the Learning & Skills Council, Local Authorities, Connexions Partnerships and IAG providers, to mount a regional event on the use of ICT to engage with, motivate and progress young people who are NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training).
The event was a great success and the presentations and workshops were very well received by delegates. There is a lot of interest in reaching the disengaged, and digital technology has the potential to appeal to those who are not engaged with more traditional forms of learning. It does, at the very least, offer a second bite at the cherry.
The day featured inputs from Ian Thompson, who developed Leeds' e-Inclusion programme, David Baugh, author of the new Digital Cre8tor syllabus and Tim Davies from Youth Work Online, an online network open to anyone interested in exploring youth engagement and new technologies. These were followed by break-out workshops to explore the use of ICT to engage with, motivate and progress young people who are NEET.
These workshops looked at what is happening and what is working in more detail, including an update from Barnsley's programme, a hands-on podcasting session, an exploration of the use of social networking tools and an in-depth look at curriculum planning and skills portfolios.
